Watch My Garden Grow

British Summer Time is here and I am loving every minute of it.  The weather is gorgeous and energy levels are high.  I thought I would update you with how my garden is growing, it's coming along slowly but surely.  I am trying to find time in the day around work, kids and family life for my garden.  Every little helps.

I have moved some plants and rocks that I already had to start building my borders.  I have also added some features, silver garden balls and hanging garden zinc tea light lanterns which will look great at night and are perfect ambient lighting for garden parties and barbeques.

Garden Ideas British Summer Begins 2012

Don't forget that tomorrow Sunday 25th March British Summer Time begins, the clocks go forward and the days start getting longer.

This is my favourite time of year when you know that spring is in the air and with the weather being so warm its the perfect time for being outdoors in the garden.

My garden despertatley needs some TLC and I have decided that this is going to be my first of many projects this spring / summer so watch this space.

St Patricks Day Parade and Festival London 2012

Happy St Patricks Day

Join in the fun on sunday 18th March London is celebrating St Patricks day with a parade from Green Park to Trafalgar Square, from 12.00 until 6.00. 

It will be one of the liveliest celebrations of the year featuring an array of floats, marching bands and groups representing the Irish counties with a turnout of over 100,000 people last year.

Trafalgar Square will host the festival program of live traditional and contemporary Irish music and dance on the main stage.

This fantastic, free family day out is a great way to experience all things Irish from food and dance to crafts, culture, music and much more.

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14!

One estimate suggests that there are about 10,000 regular three leaf clovers for every four leaf clover.

Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something

The first is for hope

The second for faith

The third for love

The fourth for luck

National Science And Engineering Week 2012

National Science and Engineering Week starts tomorrow Friday 9th March and ends Sunday 18th March, it helps to inspire the next generation of scientists with fun and participative activities.

It is the UK's widest grassroots celebration of all things science.

Visit the British Science Associations website for an event near you, I am sure you and your children will have a great time.

How to make a Lava Lamp

Having done this a few years ago with my eldest son I just know my 5 year old will love this.

You will need:

•     A clean 1 litre clear coke / lemonade bottle
•     3/4 cup of water
•     Vegetable oil
•     Fizzing tablets (such as Alka Seltzer)
•     Food colouring

1. Pour the water into the bottle.
2. Use a measuring cup or funnel to slowly pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it is almost full. You may have to wait a few minutes for the oil and water to separate.
3. Add 10 drops of food colouring to the bottle, we like red, but any colour will look great. The drops will pass through the oil and then mix with the water below.
4. Break the alka seltzer tablet in half and drop the half tablet into the bottle. Watch it sink to the bottom and let the blobby greatness begin!
5. To keep the effect going, just add another tablet piece.
6. For a true lava lamp effect, shine a torch through the bottom of the bottle.

Create a little happiness today.
